Household Air Conditioners – As a reminder, for the first time, air conditioners have become declared articles. If you import and sell air conditioners then you must ensure they are tested and approved before sale.
Household Air conditioners that contain flammable refrigerant must comply with AS/NZS 60335.2.40, be issued with a Certificate of Approval or a Certificate of Conformity, be registered on the EESS database against the responsible supplier’s name.
This became mandatory on 27th January 2017.

If you import and sell household air conditioners without flammable refrigerant, then they are still classified as risk “Level 1” equipment. However, on 29th January 2018 these types will become “Level 2” equipment and must hold a certificate of suitability to AS/NZS 60335.2.40 and a Technical Construction file.
Please note you must also have EMC compliance and Energy Efficiency registrations and labelling for these units.
